LASCASSAS — School Resource Officer Joseph Rigsby of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department asked members of Holly Grove Baptist Church here to pray for and show love to students — at his middle school and in all schools and communities.

Rigsby, who works at a middle school, spoke during the church’s morning worship service Sept. 11.

He sees many children in dire circumstances and the society “in tough times,” he explained.

He told of being approached by a student at his middle school, which is for students in grades 6-8. The boy told Rigsby some information about his family. As a result, that same day the child was removed from his family, said the SRO. [Read more…]

HE, SHE, HUH?: PRONOUN CAMPAIGN ‘CULTURAL MARXISM’

September 14, 2016

By David Roach
Baptist Press

160914pronounsNASHVILLE (BP) — Vanderbilt University’s campaign to support transgender individuals by encouraging use of proper “pronoun etiquette” has been characterized by a law professor at the Nashville university as the latest manifestation of an intolerant, secularist agenda prevalent in higher education.

“Political correctness, multiculturalism and the redefinition of the pronouns are a form of cultural Marxism,” Carol Swain, professor of political science and law at Vanderbilt, told Baptist Press in written comments. “It’s part of an aggressive agenda to destroy Western traditions, values and norms. Across America and on the Vanderbilt campus, a small minority wields enormous power when it comes to implementing their agendas for societal change.” [Read more…]

JACKSON  — Union University hosted more than 4,000 campers at Centrifuge Camps throughout the summer. During the seven weeks of camps, more than 600 decisions were made, including 136 salvation decisions, 365 rededications, and 37 calls to ministry.

Todd Brady, Union’s vice president for university ministries, said Union is grateful to have had a part in the life-changing experiences that students had on campus this summer.

Objective_1_ICON_baptism“Throughout the years Union University has been a place where students experience the Lord in profound ways,” Brady said. “As a Christian college committed to the mission of providing Christ-centered education that promotes excellence and character development in service to church and society, we are grateful to partner with Centrifuge and be a part of what God is doing in the lives of young people throughout America.”

Students at each camp participated in morning and evening worship, small group Bible studies, and team-building recreation. Union provided the facilities for all of the activities.

The number of Centrifuge campers at Union has continued to grow over the past four years, and Brady said he prays Union continues to be a place where students’ lives are transformed by God.

As parents, we aren’t perfect. And yes, we make mistakes while thinking we are doing what is right. In conversation with a grandmother, she related this story.

“When our little girl was in elementary school, we thought that eating a good wholesome breakfast was the best preparation for the school day. Therefore, I made sure she had a balanced meal to start the morning. However, my child didn’t want to eat that early. But, we insisted. There were many mornings our 6-year-old left in tears. As a mom, this is one of those things that I wish I could do over. How much better it would have been for her to leave home happy and smiling! Also, I could have let her choose something she liked — instead of traditional breakfast food.” [Read more…]

The phone call was one that, as a campus minister, you love to receive. Reed Tallman from Immanuel Baptist Church, Elizabethton, contacted me in July 2015 to pass along contact information on a student coming to the University of Tennessee at Martin.  The importance of the call was vital for Tallman because the student from his youth ministry, Roger Clark, lived more than 400 miles away from Martin. Tallman knew that this transition to college would be a huge step for Clark and he wanted to do all he could to build a bridge from the high school campus to the college campus for Roger. They grew up in the youth program and attended all the special events and served on several missions teams while in high school.

MARTIN — Driving down Interstate 40 toward Jackson, saw something that made him almost swerve off the road — a larger-than-life picture of himself  on a billboard advertising the University of Tennessee at Martin where he is a senior.

“I was looking around at the other cars. Do they know that this guy is in the car next to them?” laughed Reeves, who is captain of the golf team. “It was fun. A lot of guys gave me a hard time about it.”

UTM golf coach Jerry Carpenter has seen Reeves’ face value. [Read more…]
