DISASTER RELIEF CONCLUDES IN SC, TRAVELS TO TX

November 23, 2015

dr-disaster-relief-logoMOUNT JULIET — Just after concluding five weeks of work helping flood victims in South Carolina following Hurricane Joaquin, Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers traveled to south Texas to help flood victims there.

One great result was that Tennessee Baptists saw seven people make professions of faith during their week of working there, reported Wes Jones, disaster relief specialist, Tennessee Baptist Convention. All of the disaster relief workers from several states there saw about 70 people make professions of faith, they reported. See more in Baptist Press story.

The team of eight served in Weslaco, Texas, near the border with Mexico doing mud out just like most Tennessee Baptist DR volunteers did in South Carolina, said Jones. This time the flooding was a result of Hurricane Patricia.

The team was led by Bill Sartain of Nolachucky Baptist Association, based in Morristown, and served Nov. 14-22.

Jones said he doesn’t know at this time if any other Tennessee DR teams will respond to the needs in Texas.
