WHY WOULD GOD BLESS AMERICA?

July 30, 2024

By Larry Robertson
Pastor, Hilldale Baptist Church, Clarksville

We ask God to bless America. But in all seriousness, why would He?

We’ve chosen happiness over holiness, pleasure over purity, politics over prayer, and earth over heaven.

Why would God bless America?

We’ve forsaken the Golden Rule and replaced it with the rule of gold. We’ve sought power more than served people. We decry idolatry and, yet, we’ve become idolaters.

Why would God bless America?

Robertson

We elect leaders who care little for the values laid out in the Sermon on the Mount. We call ourselves Christians, but how much do we really resemble Christ?

Why would God bless America?

We deny our hypocrisy, but God knows the truth.

Why would God bless America?

But we find a principle in the words God spoke to Solomon, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (II Chronicles 7:14).

Until we do that, why would God bless America?

Christian, let’s pray for our nation (and the world), yes!

But let’s begin with repentance. B&R
