What inspires you? What lights your fire? What is your passion?
Once you know your passion, you will discover your “why?” Several years ago, Margie Warrell wrote an article for Forbes. In the article, she stated:
“The word inspire comes from the Latin, meaning ‘to breathe life into.’ Accordingly, when you are working toward things that inspire you, it literally makes you feel more alive. What makes you come alive isn’t referring to taking your dream holiday or watching your favorite team play football (unless you’re called to a career as a football coach or commentator). It’s bigger than that.
I’m talking about a ‘why’ that moves up the food chain from being about you to being about something bigger than you. It’s about connecting with what you’re passionate about, knowing that when you focus your attention on endeavors that put a fire in your belly, you grow your impact and influence in ways that nothing else can” (Oct. 30, 2013, “Do You Know Your Why?”).
Notice she said discovering your “why?” is “about a why that moves up the food chain from being about you to being about something better than you.” Humanly speaking, all sorts of things can excite you, motivate you, inspire you. Spiritually speaking, either your relationship with God will motivate you or your passion for something else that has become your god will motivate you.
Now, take a minute and think. What breathes life into your spirit? There is only one who is truly capable of breathing life into your spirit — the true and living God. Everything else is little more than a temporary adrenaline rush.
If we want the church to be filled with the spirit of the Living God, that needs to start with you and me. We must discover our “why?” If it is not Jesus Christ, we must repent of our idolatry and place our dependence on Jesus.
What is your “why?” Mine is humbly following the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
