Baptist and Reflector
FRANKLIN — Due to the lingering effects of COVID-19, the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board had to cancel its annual retreat for bivocational ministers and wives, normally held in January each year.
“In lieu of that, we began working with our bivocational ministry council at the first of the year to provide a series of ‘Banquet and a Program’ events for bivocational ministers and their wives during April and May,” said Roger “Sing” Oldham, pastor engagement specialist for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board.
Oldham said the banquets are just one way to express appreciation to bivocational pastors for their tireless service to Tennessee Baptists, especially during the stress-filled months of the pandemic.
Thirteen banquets are scheduled across the state during April and May, Oldham said. Each banquet will include a time of fellowship around the table, a marriage enrichment moment, door prizes and a message of encouragement designed to help equip for pastoral service, worship through music and a time of focused prayer, Oldham said.
Speakers and topics include Roc Collins, strategic objectives director, TBMB, “Discouragement in Ministry;” Randy C. Davis, president and executive director, TBMB, “Loneliness in Leadership;” Ernest Easley, director of the Lockerman Leadership Institute at First Baptist Church, Cleveland, “Standing in the Need of Prayer;” Dean Haun, pastor, First Baptist Church, Morristown, “Ministry of Presence;” Steve Holt, church services director, TBMB, “Pastor as a ‘Non-Anxious Presence;’ ” Frank Lewis, pastor, First Baptist Church, Nashville, “Holding On To the Disciplines;” and Danny Sinquefield, pastor, Faith Baptist Church, Bartlett, “Boundaries in Ministry.”
