FAYETTEVILLE – Baptists in Lincoln County are assessing damage from a tornado that hit the area on April 28.
Two people were killed as a result of the storm, according to news reports. One church (Grace Falls Baptist Church, Fayetteville) was reportedly destroyed and the home of Pastor Darrell Haney received major damage. He also lost both of his vehicles.
Randy Maxwell, director of missions for William Carey Baptist Association, based in Fayetteville, said association disaster relief volunteers were out Tuesday morning, April 29, assessing damage. Some areas were still closed and inaccessible.
Maxwell also had checked with pastors of churches in the hardest hit areas. He reported that several church members in those areas either lost their homes or had extensive damage.
David Acres, Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief director, took roof tarps and furring strips for damaged roofs to the area on Tuesday morning. Homes are still threatened by coming rain.
“We will respond in other ways as needed once assessments are made,” said Acres.
