By Lonnie Wilkey

Editor’s Note: You can listen to Phillip Hardee discuss the rebuilding efforts of Tennessee Baptists on the island of Dominica during Episode 14 of Radio B&R, the official news podcast of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board.

Hurricane Maria devastated Dominica last September, leaving many homes destroyed or heavily damaged.

FRANKLIN — The devastation caused by Hurricane Maria on the island of Dominica was “eye-opening and jaw-dropping,” said Phillip Hardee, a disaster relief volunteer from Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova.

Hardee was part of an assessment team (along with Wes Jones, disaster relief specialist for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board and Don Owen of First Baptist Church, Morristown) who visited the island in late November to assess the damage done by the Category 5 hurricane last September.

Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief  accepted the challenge to coordinate relief efforts on the island, specifically the village of La Plaine, and will provide relief materials and supplies throughout 2018. [Read more…]

IMMIGRATION AND MY CHRISTIAN RESPONSIBILITY

January 15, 2018

By Chris Turner
TBMB Communications Director

The plane taxied to a stop and flight attendants opened both the forward and rear doors for us to disembark. As I rose from my seat, a smell hit me like a sucker punch and triggered a gag reflex. People cleared a space. Fortunately, it turned out well for everyone.

The smell continued its assault on my senses. As we pulled away from the airport and navigated around the emaciated cow meandering down the expressway, I asked the missionary, “What’s that smell?”

“Oh, that’s just Calcutta,” he responded with a chuckle. “You get used to it after a few months.” [Read more…]

Pastor Tony Crisp, center, leads in prayer at the conclusion of the New Year’s Eve service at Eastanallee Baptist Church.

All 66 chapters of the Bible. In one night.

Crisp, the lead pastor of Eastanallee Baptist Church, led a five-hour service on New Year’s Eve in which he guided attendees down the “Crimson River of Redemption” — from Genesis to Revelation — in a brisk, but detailed, journey through the Scriptures.
