David Evans to run for TBC president

FRANKLIN — David Evans, pastor of Springfield Baptist Church, and current Tennessee Baptist Convention vice president, will be nominated for the TBC presidency when the annual meeting convenes at the Sevierville Convention Center on Nov. 16-17.
Larry Robertson, senior pastor of Hilldale Baptist Church, Clarksville, informed the Baptist and Reflector on Aug. 10 of his intention to nominate Evans, who has been the pastor at Springfield Baptist since 2019.
“I believe David is uniquely equipped to serve Tennessee Baptists as our convention president,” Robertson said. “He has the experience to understand our convention, the pastor’s heart to understand our churches, and the character to lead us with humility, conviction, and integrity.
“David has served Tennessee Baptists in just about every way a man can serve — as a church planter, pastor, revitalizer, denominational leader, and convention servant. Through all of it, I’ve watched him remain grounded, approachable, and deeply committed to the Great Commission. I trust him to represent Tennessee Baptists well.”
During his tenure at Springfield, Evans has led the church to be financially generous, giving 9.64% ($139,217.60) through the Cooperative Program. The church also contributes thousands more by supporting the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions, Harvest Baptist Association, Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes, and other local missions projects.
Springfield has baptized 252 people since Evans started in 2019, including 76 so far this year, the most for the church since 1952. That follows a total of 51 last year, which was the most since 1963.
“David doesn’t simply believe in cooperative missions in theory,” Robertson added. “He has built his ministry around it. He pastors a church that is both giving and going, and his own ministry reflects that same commitment to evangelism, missions, and cooperation.”
Evans graduated from Greenbrier High School and Austin Peay State University. He holds a Master of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Master of Theology and Doctor of Philosophy from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
He was ordained by Crossroads Baptist Church in 1998, where he also served as associate pastor and then as associate pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Evans was a North American Mission Board Nehemiah Project Planter as the planting pastor for Epiphany Baptist Church. All are Tennessee Baptist churches.
Evans also served as evangelism director, evangelism specialist, and Harvest Field 3 leader for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board prior to becoming pastor at Springfield. He is a former TBMB board member and currently serves on the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee Board of Trustees.
Evans and his wife, Stephanie, a Ph.D. and licensed therapist specializing in mental health, have two children. B&R
