Baptist and Reflector
BRENTWOOD — Former Tennessee Baptist Convention student leader Glenn Yarbrough died June 29 at the age of 94.
The Illinois native served as the state director for Baptist Student Unions (now Baptist Campus Ministry) with the Executive Board of the Tennessee Baptist Convention (now Tennessee Baptist Mission Board) from 1969-87.
“Glenn Yarbrough was a gracious gentleman who loved God and loved college students,” said Bill Choate, collegiate ministries director for the TBMB. Yarbrough hired Choate more than 30 years ago to serve as associate BSU director at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
“He was an extraordinary Bible scholar and loved a well-crafted opinion. He was thoughtful and intentional in every area of his life, even to his last years. Dr. Yarbrough set the bar high for those of us who served with him and followed his ministry,” Choate observed.
Yarbrough was a longtime member, Sunday School teacher, and deacon at First Baptist Church, Nashville. A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist on Friday, July 6, at 1 p.m., with visitation prior to the service.
Yarbrough was preceded in death by his wife, Marian. He is survived by three children, five grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
