LEADING THE CHARGE IN EVANGELISTIC DISCIPLESHIP

March 25, 2025

Team Leader: Discipleship

Ryan Keaton

As the Strengthening Evangelistic Disciples Team Leader, I have the privilege of guiding a movement dedicated to deepening biblical discipleship across the Tennessee Baptist Convention network. This role isn’t just about leadership — it’s about catalyzing a statewide culture of disciple-making that will transform individuals, churches, and communities for the glory of God.

There are several ways we plan to implement this:

Building a Network that Transforms Lives

Our vision is bold: To develop a collaborative network of spiritually healthy churches reaching Tennessee and beyond until every Tennessean hears the Gospel. This is more than a strategy — it’s a mission that unites churches of all sizes and demographics to establish age-appropriate, reproducible discipleship frameworks that empower children, students, and adults to grow in their faith and become disciple-makers.

Equipping Leaders for Lasting Impact

Discipleship flourishes when leaders are connected, equipped, and empowered. That’s why we’re launching regional discipleship cohorts, interactive workshops, and digital platforms that will unite pastors, ministry leaders, and lay leaders based on geography, church size, or specific ministry needs.

Some will be peer-to-peer learning environments where best practices are shared, while others will offer coaching and mentorship to help leaders navigate challenges and opportunities.

Betting the Farm on Relationships

At the core of this movement is a simple yet profound truth: Discipleship thrives in relationships. We are investing in age-graded discipleship champions to ensure that people are actively growing in their faith at every stage of life. This approach pushes more resources directly into the field, allowing churches to adapt and innovate based on real-time feedback from leaders engaging their communities.

Sustaining a Culture of Discipleship

Creating a disciple-making culture isn’t a one-time initiative — it requires continuous connection, coaching, and catalytic movement. That’s why we are committed to regular training opportunities, curated discipleship resources, and mentorship programs that pair experienced leaders with those eager to grow.

We want to ensure every leader has the tools, encouragement, and vision to create a multiplying effect within their church.

A Movement Everyone Can Join

Discipleship is not just for church staff — it’s for every believer.

One of the most exciting aspects of this collaborative effort is that every Tennessee Baptist can participate. Whether through sharing resources, mentoring a new believer, or leading a small group, there’s a place for everyone in this disciple-making movement.

The Future of Discipleship in Tennessee

Our mission is clear: To serve every member of Tennessee Baptist life by helping churches establish sustainable and impactful discipleship pathways.

This is not just about programs — it’s about fostering a movement that transcends individual churches and ripples across the state. With a clear vision, strategic leadership, and ongoing support, we believe Tennessee can become a model for effective, church-based discipleship that reaches far beyond state lines, transforming lives for Jesus.

Let’s build the future of discipleship together. The best is yet to come! B&R
