CROSSVILLE — New Tennessee Woman’s Missionary Union president Yolanda Heuser shared her goals and vision for WMU as she begins her term of leadership.
• “My number one goal is to show that WMU has a vital role in our churches and that missions education and missions work is vital in the upcoming generations,” she said.
• “I also desire to help people understand missions work is for all ages.” Children are vital in the role of missions and so are the middle aged and the elderly. If you can talk, walk, sit or pray then there is a place in missions for you. Age is not a deterrent,” Heuser stressed.
• And, last but not least, Heuser wants to see WMU move forward.
“We must implement changes, while staying true to our purpose ‘to inform, encourage, and equip churches and individuals to engage in missions learning, support and involvement that enables them to fulfill the Great Commission.’ ”
Heuser observed that the pandemic in 2020 and the first five months of 2021 has taught her that change is inevitable.
“It is what we do with this unavoidable change that will show what we are made of,” she observed.
She recalled how churches came together when they could not meet in person and continued to share the gospel through social media. “We must pray and seek for ways in which to embrace changes and use them for His glory. How we do this is still a work in progress, but WMU will go forward and continue in His mission field.” B&R
