Baptist and Reflector
FRANKLIN — Tennessee Baptists have set a record for giving through the Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions with $1,731,741 as of June 9.
With nearly three months remaining in the 2016-17 GOTM fiscal year (Sept.1, 2016-Aug. 31, 2017), Tennessee Baptists are within reach ($118,258 or 6.39 percent) of the goal of $1.85 million. GOTM gifts are $95,283 or 5.82 percent above what was given through the same time frame last year.
The previous record for GOTM gifts was set in 2007-08 when Tennessee Baptists gave $1,730,525.
“What an incredible milestone for Tennessee Baptists,” said Randy C. Davis, president and executive director of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board.
“We’ve seen an amazing increase in GOTM giving over the last few years. I believe Tennessee Baptists are hearing the message that, any way you slice it, Tennessee is a mission field. They are giving generously. Thank you Tennessee Baptists for rising to the occasion.
Despite despite record breaking giving, there are record breaking needs, Davis continued.
“We have four million people in our state who have no relationship with Christ, 90 percent of our youngest generation in danger of growing to adulthood not knowing Jesus, and nearly 150 different people groups living in our state, many of which are among the world’s most unreached by the gospel.
“We’ve come a long way, but we’re not there yet. To maximize our ministry effort and reach our GOTM budget we need Tennessee Baptists to continue their generosity. There really is so much we can do to reach Tennessee and reach the nations when we work together,” Davis said.
