SBC 2024: ANNUAL MEETING CONVENES WITH 10,199 MESSENGERS

INDIANAPOLIS — The 2024 annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention convened June 11 with 10,199 registered messengers.

Several Tennessee Baptists were elected to positions of leadership during the first session.

Lindsay Nicholet of Grace Baptist Church, Franklin, and William Seale of First Baptist Church, Morristown, were elected to serve on the 2024-25 Committee on Nominations.

During the 2024 Committee on Nominations report, other Tennessee Baptists were elected for the following SB entities:

SBC Executive Committee: David Evans, Springfield Baptist Church, Springfield
GuideStone Financial Resources: Chuck Herring, First Baptist Church, Collierville, (seond term)
International Mission Board: Scott C. Parkison, Stevens Street Baptist Church, Cookeville
LifeWay Christian Resources: Kimberly H. Boatwright, First Baptist Church, Millington
North American Mission Board: John Mark Harrison, First Baptist Church Concord, Knoxville
New Orleans Baptist Mission Board: Roc Collins, Judson Baptist Church, Nashville (second term)
Southern Baptist Theological Seminary: Bruce Chesser, First Baptist Church, Hendersonville (second term)

During the opening session, SBC messengers made several motions. Among them, Kenny Cody of Bethel Baptist Church, Parrottsville, recommended that funds allocated to the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission be reallocated to the International Mission Board.

Remaining business during the morning session included a report from the North American Mission Board, the IMB Sending Celebration and the SBC President’s Address by Bart Barber. B&R — Lonnie Wilkey
