SEVIERVILLE — Summit, which includes a host of activities and events including the annual meeting of the Tennessee Baptist Convention, begins Sunday, Nov. 13, and concludes with a golf tournament on Nov. 17. The theme is “Connect Now … Whatever It Takes.”
Summit kicks off Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sevierville Convention Center with a “Tennessee Reunion,” a special worship service featuring Tennessee pastor Steve Gaines, president of the Southern Baptist Convention. The service will also include former University of Tennessee and NFL star Todd Kelly Sr. The Tennessee Men’s Chorale will present a pre-concert at 6 p.m.
The TBC Pastors Conference will be held on Monday, Nov. 14 (see story).
The annual meeting begins on Tuesday, Nov. 15 and concludes at noon the following day. Messengers will hear a multitude of reports, vote on a proposed name change for the TBC Executive Board (to Tennessee Baptist Mission Board), elect new officers, adopt a budget for 2016-17 (see printed budget below), and consider other business during the two days. Messages will be delivered by TBC President Roc Collins; Gary Jared, pastor, Stuart Heights Baptist Church, Chattanooga (convention sermon); Thom Rainer, president, LifeWay Christian Resources (message on church revitalization); and O.S. Hawkins, president, GuideStone Financial Resources.
The Tuesday night session will feature the Executive Board report and Collins’ president’s address.
In addition, missionaries with Tennessee ties who were part of the International Mission Board’s Voluntary Retirement Incentive last year will be recognized on Tuesday night.
Messengers will have the opportunity to approve City Reach, an effort to reach the five metro associations across Tennessee. If approved City Reach Knoxville will be launched and projects will be conducted throughout 2017-18.
Breakout sessions also will be offered on a variety of topics on both Monday, Nov. 14, and Tuesday, Nov. 15.
