The devil doesn’t want you to share Jesus! You can take that to the bank! The devil is opposed to anything that represents the Kingdom of God, and that includes you! The Bible says in John 10:10, “The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy.” Sometimes, Baptists don’t understand or sense the spiritual opposition we face in our families, churches and even at work. When we begin to understand our enemies’ tactics, we can “put up the good fight of the faith.” This certainly includes, but is not limited to, sharing the John 3:16 Challenge. The crowds had gathered to hear Jesus and He spoke about such things like beatitudes, being disciples, personal relationships, giving to the poor, prayer, fasting and true treasure. In one of His most popular sermons (Sermon on the Mount), He stated: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19-21 NAS). I have to admit, I’m not much of a fisherman. I’m a wannabe at best. Generally, I’m unwilling to take the time to become a fisherman — enough time to break away from the daily grind, enough time to purchase the equipment, enough time to know where the good fishing holes are found and enough time to even know what kind of fish I like to catch, clean, and consume (although, I usually don’t discriminate when it comes to eating!). You may feel that way about golf or hunting, football or baseball. You just don’t think it is worthy of your time and pursuit as a hobby.   [Read more…]

In one of the most celebrated passages of the Bible, Jesus said to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28: 19). Although celebrated, the command has not been without different perspectives. The process of disciple making has been debated ever since Jesus spoke the command.

Religion in America has become so consumeristic that some have hijacked the process of discipleship as a mode only for self-improvement. Others have hijacked it as a sales pitch for eternal life. Not often enough can a healthy balance be found. [Read more…]
