FRANKLIN — The Tennessee Baptist Convention ranked second among Baptist state conventions in giving through the Cooperative Program during the 2021-22 fiscal year.
Tennessee Baptists gave $18,322,933 to Southern Baptist causes during the last fiscal year.
Baptist Press reported Oct. 5 that Southern Baptists gave more than $200 million through the national Cooperative Program Allocation Budget for the first time since 2008.
For the year, the Southern Baptist Convention Cooperative Program received $200,452,607. Southern Baptists forwarded $204,385,592 for SBC causes in 2008.
“Tennessee Baptists have been very faithful in giving through the Cooperative Program to support our cooperative missions efforts from Tennessee, across our nation and throughout the globe,” said Randy C. Davis, president and executive director of the Tennessee Mission Board.
“We are thankful to partner with every state convention in supporting our Great Commission work.”
Davis also expressed appreciation for Tennessee Baptists’ generous giving in all areas of Great Commission giving including the Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions, Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, and Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. “All three of those offerings experienced record years in 2021-22 in addition to our giving through the Cooperative Program,” he observed.
The Alabama Baptist Convention led the way with $19,419,870. Following Tennessee were the Georgia Baptist Convention, $15,319190; Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, $15,233,158; and Florida Baptist Convention, $14,870,167.
“The local and global reach of every gift is a testimony to the strong cooperative spirit of every church in the SBC,” said Willie McLaurin, interim president and CEO of the SBC Executive Committee.
“I want to express a personal word of gratitude to pastors, associational missionaries and state conventions for their partnership in advancing the gospel to the nations and the neighborhoods,” he added. B&R — This article includes reporting by B&R editor Lonnie Wilkey and Baptist Press.
