TENNESCENE: APR. 29

April 28, 2020

LEADERS

Brad Childres began serving April 1 as pastor of New Zion Baptist Church, Pulaski. He formerly served as senior pastor of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Danville, Va.

DEATHS

Longtime Tennessee Baptist pastor Claude Ferguson died March 27. He had served as pastor of Reunion Baptist Church, Knoxville, for more than 30 years before retiring in 2013 due to health reasons.

CHURCHES

Warrensburg Baptist Church, Mohawk, dedicated its new building in a special service on March 1, approximately two years after a fire destroyed their sanctuary and office area.

Roe Junction Missionary Baptist Church, Morristown, was struck by lightning late in the evening on March 29. The building was destroyed. The church has a fellowship hall on the property that will be used by members once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Ben Crabtree, left, of Etter Baptist Church, Byrdstown, was recognized recently for 43 years of perfect Sunday School attendance. He added the pin, presented to him by Eric Thoman, to his collection. Crabtree, a Korean War veteran, once walked two miles in the snow and read his Sunday School lesson there when church activities were canceled.
