LEADERS

China Grove Baptist Church, Rutherford, has called Billy Crowell as interim pastor.

Dale Denning, pastor, Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Milan, was recognized recently for his 25 years of service there. Bill Northcott, former Tennessee Baptist Mission Board staff member who was Denning’s pastor, made a presentation for the TBMB.

Jon Hathcock, senior pastor, East Athens Baptist Church, Athens, has been called as pastor, First Baptist Church, Fayetteville. Bob Pruett is serving as interim pastor of East Athens Baptist.

Steve Linginfelter, retired pastor, Bethel Baptist Church, Townsend, has been called as pastor, Laurel Bank Baptist Church, Friendsville.

CHURCHES

Two members of Crossroads Community Church, Baxter, will leave soon to serve in missions work. Trish Craig, who served through the Southern Baptist International Mission Board in East Africa for five months in 2015, will serve with Reach One, Touch One in Uganda, Africa, and Rod Ellis will be a part of a ministry operating at a school in Haiti. This means that Crossroads has sent out 16 persons to do missions work since the church began in 2008.

The Women on Mission of Thompson Creek Baptist Church, Como, recently made 28 pillowcase dresses for the Weakley County Baptist Association team which will serve in Honduras.

Fairview Baptist Church, Corryton, will hold a Safety Conference on Jan. 20-21. Tactics from SheepDog Seminars, the Knoxville Police Department, and the Knox County Sheriff’s Department will be presented. For more information, contact 865-687-5648 or info@fairviewbaptist.com.

Liberty Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, both of Covington, gave 44 backpacks filled with supplies and bags of extra school supplies to the Mississippi River Ministry, reported Diane Sorrell, Woman’s Missionary Union director, Big Hatchie Baptist Association, based in Covington. They did this though many were also giving shoe box gifts to Samaritan’s Purse and though the churches are small. They each draw about 100 to church activities on Sunday mornings.

EVENTS

The Bivocational Ministers and Wives Retreat of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board will be held Jan. 26-28 in Pigeon Forge. For more information, contact John Parrott of the TBMB staff at jparrott@tnbaptist.org or 423-921-2488.

An Annual Preaching Conference will be held on Monday, Jan. 16, from 9 a.m. – noon at Silver Springs Baptist Church, Mount Juliet. The event is being held by the Fellowship of Tennessee Baptist Evangelists. For more information, contact tw62@bellsouth.net or 615-672-2443.

  • Members of Campers on Mission pause during its Fall Rally at the Brentwood campus of Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes. The COMers stand on a wheelchair ramp they built at a residence. The volunteers also did other work to help the TBCH.
  • Members of the Mats and Hats Group of Tulip Grove Baptist Church, Old Hickory, pause during their monthly meeting. They make mats for the homeless out of plastic bags and knitted hats for moms and newborns at a pregnancy center and ill children. The group started in 2013 and has made about 150 mats. The ladies also work with about eight residents of a nearby assisted living center and nursing home on the project which has helped them, reported Charlotte Maynard.   • Ann and David Mahon, left, of Brainerd Baptist Church, Chattanooga, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from national Campers on Mission recently. It was presented by Joel O’Brien of Stuart Heights Baptist Church, Chattanooga.
  • Leaders of New Hope Baptist Church, Christiana, near Murfreesboro, stand with the 83 shoe box gifts they gave to Samaritan’s Purse. The church draws about 30 people to Sunday morning activities.
  • On the recent 150th anniversary of Bible Union Missionary Baptist Church, Martin, Pastor Keith Sumner, left, received a plaque from Phil Mitchell, director of missions, Weakley County Baptist Association, based in Dresden.
  • Mike Hazlewood, pastor, Zion Baptist Church, Benton, and his wife Renee pause in India where they did missions work recently. Hazlewood conducted pastoral training for 131 pastors and open air meetings in the evening. The evening meetings drew about 500 people of which some made professions of faith. Renee worked in an orphanage. Finally, the Hazlewoods helped start a church. For more information, contact mikeandrenee91@gmail.com.
  • This combined choir of five churches of Tennessee Valley Baptist Association, based in Dayton, perform a Christmas concert at Bryan College, Dayton, on Dec. 4. The choir was made up of members of First Baptist Church, Dayton; Lake Drive Baptist Church, Sale Creek; New Union Baptist Church, Dayton; Walden’s Ridge Baptist Church, Dayton; and Wolf Creek Baptist Church, Spring City.
