DEATHS

Nina Ruth Miller, 84, a member of Lantana Road Baptist Church, Crossville, died Feb. 1. She served in ministry with her husband, Roy Lee Miller, for 61 years. He is a former staff member of the Executive Board of the Tennessee Baptist Convention (now Tennessee Baptist Mission Board). In addition to her husband she is survived by four children and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

CHURCHES

First Baptist Church, Middleton, will begin revival services on Sunday, Feb. 25, and continue through Tuesday, Feb. 27. The guest evangelist will be Roc Collins of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board. The Sunday morning service begins at 10:55 a.m. and the evening service at 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday services begin at 7 p.m.

First Baptist Church, Adamsville, will hold revival services Feb. 26-March 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m. each night. Speakers include Willie McLaurin, special assistant to the executive director of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board (Feb. 26); Larry Robertson, pastor, Hilldale Baptist Church, Clarksville (Feb. 27); Roc Collins, director of strategic objectives, TBMB (Feb. 28); Johnny Hunt, senior pastor, First Baptist Church, Woodstock, Ga. (March 1); and Ron Meeks, professor and director of church relations, Blue Mountain (Miss.) College (March 2).

Macedonia Baptist Church, Kenton, met on Jan. 7  in its newly renovated sanctuary for the first time.

LEADERS

Van Richmond has been  called as interim pastor of Scenic View Baptist Church, Nashville. He was previously pastor of New Life Church of Nashville. Richmond has served as pulpit supply in area churches for several years and is a former interim pastor of Smith Springs Baptist Church, Nashville, His wife, Lynn, is meeting planner for the Southern Baptist Convention’s Executive Committee.

Tammy Harris

Oakwood Baptist Church, Knoxville, has called Larry Fields as interim pastor. He previously served as interim pastor at Smithwood Baptist Church, Knoxville. He is pastor emeritus of Central Baptist Church, Bearden, in Knoxville.

Tank Clark

Tammy Harris was recently recognized by the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board for 15 years of service. She is an administrative assistant in Executive Leadership. She and her husband Kevin live in Spring Hill and are members of Brentwood Baptist Church, Brentwood.

Steve “Tank” Clark has been recognized by the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board as assistant manager of Linden Valley Baptist Conference Center in Linden. He and his wife Tammy and son Hayden live in Lobelville where they are members of First Baptist Church.

Jeremy O’Neal has been called as minister of music and worship at First Baptist Church, Paris.

 

  • Four Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers were honored for their work during the National Disaster Relief Roundtable held recently in Baltimore, Md. Lou Mulsand and Don Owen received distinguished service awards while John and Kaye Thomas were recipients of the Joel Phillips Award for Outstanding Service.   • Carson-Newman University President J. Randall O’Brien speaks to the campus community during the university’s annual Winter Worship Series held Feb. 6-8. Entitled “Set Free by Forgiveness,” the series addressed the importance of forgiving others, ourselves, and accepting God's forgiveness. O’Brien led the series along with guest minister of worship Paul Magyar, associate pastor of music/worship at Central Baptist Church, Bearden, in Knoxville.

  • Linda Tucker, center, recently was honored for serving 50 years as church clerk for West Union Baptist Church, Dresden. With her are her grandchildren, Matthew and Trudy.
  • Russell Moore speaks to the Carson-Newman University campus community during a Feb. 13 chapel service. Moore challenged students to remember that life on earth is fleeting and is only a fraction of what God has in store for his children beyond the grave — everlasting life. Moore serves as president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission for the Southern Baptist Convention.
