LEADERS

Stoney Creek Baptist Church, Elizabethton, recently called Steve Davis as pastor.

Dungan Chapel Baptist Church, Elizabethton, recently ordained Teddy Lewis. He is serving as interim pastor.

Corey Staton recently resigned as associate pastor to students and families at First Baptist Church, Alcoa. He is moving to North Carolina.

Owens

DEATHS

Retired pastor and chaplain Ron Owens died Nov. 14 at the age of 75. Owens was pastor of several churches in East Tennessee, including Grace Baptist Church, Elizabethton, where he served for 20 years. After retiring from the pastorate, he served as a chaplain at a local hospital until last June. Owens is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy, two daughters, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Kyker

Retired Tennessee Baptist pastor Ken Kyker died Nov. 5 at the age of 84. Kyker began his ministry in 1965 and served as pastor of several churches in Holston Baptist Association and the Watauga Baptist Association of Churches. Pastorates included Skyline Heights Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist Church in Johnson City. He was pastor emeritus at Antioch Baptist. He and his wife attended the Drive-In Church at University Parkway Baptist in Johnson City. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol, two daughters, five grandsons and several great grandchildren.

ASSOCIATIONS

Chilhowee Baptist Association elected officers during their recent annual meeting. Serving are Barry Crowson, pastor of Unity Baptist Church, Maryville, moderator; Gabe Brown, pastor of Providence Baptist Church, Seymour, vice moderator; and Gary McCammon, pastor of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Maryville, clerk.

 

  • Bethel Baptist Church, Greenfield, which averages about 150 people on Sunday morning, set a goal of 1,000 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. The church collected 1,341 boxes. Andi Harrington served as coordinator of the project. David Worley is pastor.
  • Liberty Baptist Church in Sparta recently sponsored a “Turkey Shoot for Missions” in support of Child Evangelism Fellowship’s “Good News” after school program in White County and the Upper Cumberland. The church totally supported the effort with volunteers and donations. The event included a breakfast followed by the turkey shoot. The event raised $2,141. Pastor Jacob Harris noted it was exciting to see the debt retired and to move into the future with a renewed focus on the mission to love God, love people and make disciples.
