CHURCHES

Members of First Baptist Church, Manchester, are on a missions trip to south Boston this week (July 10-16).

Antioch Baptist Church and Harmony Baptist Church, both in Benton, have merged. The church name will remain Antioch Baptist. John Cain is pastor.

Members of Calvue Baptist Church, Morristown, will celebrate the church’s 75th anniversary on Aug. 6. The church was organized on July 27, 1942. Worship begins at 10 a.m. with lunch following in the fellowship hall.

Liberty Baptist Church, Somerville, held revival service July 23-26 with guest evangelist Phil Glisson of Memphis.

Fruitland Baptist Church, Humboldt, will hold revival services July 23-26 with Charles Timberlake.

The Lesters from St. Louis, Mo., will be in concert on Aug. 6 at Union Hill Baptist Church, Goodlettsville. The address is 1301 Union Hill Rd. and the free concert will begin at 6 p.m. A love offering will be taken.

Valley View Baptist Church, Nashville, will host a family fun festival July 15, beginning at 4 p.m., followed by a hot dog/hamburger supper at 6:30 p.m. The church also will host “Movie on the Lawn,” featuring “The Shack” on Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m. For more information on these events, contact Mitchell Karnes at 615-828-8015 or Summer Harmon at 615-262-3950.

LEADERS

Jason Robertson began serving as pastor of East Athens Baptist Church, Athens, on July 2.

Hillcrest Baptist Church, Manchester, has called Keith Nunley as pastor. He formerly served as pastor of Victory Baptist Church, Manchester, and was youth minister at First Baptist Church, Decherd.

Danny Singleton recently began serving as pastor of Clearwater Baptist Church, Athens. He formerly served as an evangelist in Georgia.

Gibson Baptist Church, Gibson, has called Steve Littleton as pastor.

Fellowship Baptist Church, Milan, has called Roger Ellsworth as interim pastor.

First Baptist Church, Jefferson City, has called Ellen Di Giosia as pastor, effective Aug. 1. She comes to the position from Woodland Baptist Church, San Antonio, Texas, where she has been on staff since 2008, and has served as associate pastor, Faith Formation, since 2013. She and her husband Tony have two children.

ASSOCIATIONS

Gibson Baptist Association, based in Trenton, sent a missions team July 5-8 to New Bremen, Ohio. The team prayerwalked, did survey work, and led Vacation Bible School in a park and some subdivisions. The team was working with a local Baptist association to begin a new church in the town. The association also had a team of 13 volunteers who served June 17-25 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The team worked in an area that is the headquarters of a drug cartel and organized crime. They saw 60 professions of faith, discipled 81 new converts, and conducted 1-3 discipleship Bible studies.

 

  • Big Hatchie Baptist Association in Covington held its annual Camp Hatchie on June 5-9. Ninety students and counselors spent the week on the theme of being “Transformed” (Romans 12:2). Drew Murphy, pastor of Fayette Baptist Church,Somerville, served as camp pastor. Worship was led by Jeff and Hannah Gafford of Arlington.
  • On June 18 (Father’s Day), West Shiloh Baptist Church, Stantonville, honored three fathers and former deacons who have over 120 years of combined service at West Shiloh with the honor and distinction of “Deacon Emeritus”.   • Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers have been working in the Memphis area since April 30 when more storms left more than 150,000 people without power and thousands of homes were damaged. (cont'd)
  • (cont'd) DR teams came from Haywood, Crockett, Tipton, Madison, and Henderson counties, said Pastor Michael Ellis of Impact Baptist Church in Memphis. “The teams have been a blessing to the families of Memphis and a Godly witness for the kingdom,” he observed.
