Stacy Murphree

Stacy Murphree, Baptist Collegiate Ministry specialist at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, recently celebrated her 20th anniversary as staff member with the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board. She is a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church, Cunningham.

Hickman Baptist Church, Hickman, has called Tommy Ferguson as pastor, effective June 11. Don Mathis has been serving as interim pastor.

CHURCHES

Concord Baptist Church, Mohawk, will celebrate the church’s 200th anniversary on June 11 beginning at 9:45 a.m.

DEATHS

Jack Parrott

Longtime Tennessee Baptist pastor Jack C. Parrott of Knoxville died May 17 at the age of 88. A graduate of Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Parrott served as a pastor for 50 years. He was a member of Black Oak Heights Baptist Church, where he served as pastor from 1965-89. He then became pastor of Sunnyside Baptist Church, Kingsport, until his retirement. He later returned to Knoxville and was named pastor emeritus at Black Oak Heights. Parrott is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Parrott, two sons and four grandchildren. He was  a former trustee of the Southern Baptist International Mission Board.

 

  • Matt Cannon was called as the new director of missions/associational mission strategist of Big Emory Baptist Association during a special called meeting of the association on March 30. A University of Tennessee and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary graduate, Cannon comes to the position after spending 11-and-a-half years as pastor of Lee Village Baptist Church in Harriman. He has been a Tennessee Baptist pastor since 1999. He looks forward to helping the churches of the association work together to reach more people with the gospel.   • Immanuel Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, honored pastor Dave Brown and his wife Sheila, on his 20-year anniversary as pastor. The church presented him with cards, a gift from the church, and a luncheon in his honor following the morning worship service. Former members returned to celebrate this milestone event at the church.
  • First Baptist Church, Blountville, recognized pastor Clay Austin on his 37th anniversary as pastor on April 2. His wife, Anita, and family were present as he was presented a picture that the congregation signed.
  • Don Hendrickson, center, with his wife, Donna, recently was presented a Quilt of Valor by the Quilts of Valor quilting group during their recent retreat at Carson Springs Baptist Conference Center. Hendrickson is a retired United States Marine and a staff member at Carson Springs. The purpose of Quilts of Valor is to cover service members and veterans who have been touched by war with quilts, according to group leaders Lisa Sutherland and Anne Mixon. With the Hendricksons, who are members of First Baptist Church, Newport, are two military veterans in the Quilts of Valor group — Jeannie Hurburt, left, and Emily Elam, right. — Photo by Susan Mason
