Holt’s Corner Baptist Church, Chapel Hill, will hold revival services March 27-31. Phil Waldrop of Phil Waldrop Ministries will preach at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 27. David Worley resigned in February after 16 years as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Greenfield, to become pastor of Mount Gilead Baptist Church, Cedar Grove, effective Feb. 27.
Jeff Moody has been called as interim pastor of Beech Springs Baptist Church, Gleason.
EDUCATION
Carson-Newman University, Jefferson City, has changed the name of the School of Religion to the School of Biblical and Theological Studies. In addition, the newly renamed school will expand its degree options in August with the addition of a master of divinity degree, pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The decision to add the new master’s degree will better serve students in the region, said Ryan Stokes, director of graduate theological studies at C-N.
Cross Roads Baptist Church, Bells, honored Ross Via on Feb. 27 for 50 years of service as minister of music at the church. Via and his wife, Catherine, who serves as church pianist, were honored with a presentation of a custom made plaque and flowers for Catherine. Via recently retired from leading the music but his wife continues to play the piano each Sunday. Larry Murphy, executive director of the Madison-Chester and Crockett Associations, spoke along with Cross Roads pastor Josh Simmons. Cheryl Via Freeman, the Vias’ daughter, sang and the Vias’ granddaughter, Andi Cate Via, played the offertory music. The Vias are shown with their pastor, Josh Simmons, right.
