Springfield Baptist Church, Springfield, has called Dan Garland, director of church partnerships at LifeWay Christian Resources, Nashville, as interim pastor. He began serving at the church Feb. 4.

First Baptist Church, LaFollette, has called Joe Sorah and Bill Horner as co-interim pastors. Sorah, compassion ministries specialist for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, will conduct Sunday morning and evening services and work with standing committees as needed, while Horner will lead the Wednesday night services and be on call during the week as needed.

  • Zion Baptist Church, Benton, recently held its third annual men’s retreat with participants from three churches. Mike Hazlewood is pastor of Zion Baptist.
  • Sylvia Baptist church in Dickson had a groundbreaking service for their new building on Feb 25. The church has been working on plans for a new building for several years. There was a time of worship and sharing the history of the different stages the church had gone through to get to this exciting day.  Afterwards, they met on the spot the new building will be built and “broke ground.” (cont'd)
  • (cont'd) The pastor, Bro. Clark Brown and the building and design team composed of Butch Williams (chairman) Donnie Adkins, Jim Robertson, Carl Davis, Robert Mangrum and Eddie Deaton turned the first shovels of dirt. Then several other members took turns turning dirt.  Associate pastor, Bro. Ken Brown read Scripture and had everyone shout a praise when the first dirt was turned. It was an exciting time for the church.  The building will be an 8,000 square foot Family Life Center which will be used for worship, fellowship, activities, offices and Sunday School space.  The project is expected to take between 6 to 8 months to complete.  Kerry Campbell Construction is doing the construction and the Tennessee Baptist Foundation is providing the loan.
