Mike Thrower
Mike Thrower, director of missions, Beech River Baptist Association, based in Lexington, retired Jan. 31 after serving almost 15 years. He has be en called as minister to senior adults and of pastoral care, First Baptist Church, Lexington. Formerly he was pastor, Brunswick Baptist Church, Brunswick, for 20 years; and pastor of two churches in Mississippi for six years. Thrower is a graduate of New Orleans (La.) Baptist Theological Seminary.
David and Mary Demps, house managers of Stoneway Acres — White House (for men), Lebanon, of Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes, based in Brentwood, are retiring. The couple has served TBAH for 20 years. The Demps also are directors of the special needs ministry of Immanuel Baptist Church, Lebanon. John Grogan has been called as pastor, West Side Baptist Church, Trenton.
Flewellyn Baptist Church, Springfield, has called Scott Mowery as youth pastor.
Ron Davidson, director of missions, Shiloh Baptist Association, based in Adamsville, will be honored at a retirement reception on March 30. He will retire March 31 after serving 17 years. Glynn Reynolds was named Missions Volunteer of the Year of Gibson Baptist Association, based in Trenton, recently. A member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church, Dyer, he was honored at the association’s Annual Missions Banquet. Reynolds has served in 14 different countries, in North America, with the brick team, at children’s homes in North Carolina and Tennessee, and as a Baptist disaster relief volunteer.
CHURCHES
Ramble Creek Baptist Church, Big Sandy, held a one day revival recently. As a result, a young man made a profession of faith and joined the church. Floyd “Lammie” Lammersfeld, evangelist of McKenzie, preached.
Caney Fork Baptist Church, Cookeville, will hold the first service in its new sanctuary on March 19. The congregation has met at a middle school while involved in the building program.
Temple Baptist Church, Paris, has renovated its facilities, reported Gerald Scott, pastor.
DEATHS
Carolyn Mauldin, 83, wife of Don Mauldin, retired Tennessee Baptist Convention (now Tennessee Baptist Mission Board) staff member, died Feb. 24. She was an active member of Forest Hills Baptist Church, Nashville. Don, who helped lead Discipleship Training for the TBC, retired in 2001 after serving 25 years. The couple was married for 60 years.
Members of M.C.M. Missionary Baptist Church, New Tazewell, joined in the annual missions project of the Woman’s Missionary Union of Cumberland Gap Baptist Association, based in Harrogate. The project was to give to “Pure Water, Pure Love” of WMU, SBC, by collecting change in empty water bottles. The church’s Sunday School classes competed against each other and the preteens class won by giving the most money. A total of $442 was given by the congregation, reported Sherry Carroll. About 80 people attend Sunday morning activities. The winning class included, from left, Ashton Myers; Regan Lester; Morgan Wells; Mark West, teacher; Jordan Wells; Tyler Epperson; and Kinley Cox.
