Billy Hoffman

Billy Hoffman, director of development, Southern Baptist International Mission Board, based in Richmond, for 13 years, has been named stewardship development specialist, Tennessee Baptist Convention, effective March 1. Prior to that he was director of annual giving and planned giving, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. Hoffman also served in the U.S. Army, where he was a captain, and has been a church planter and pastor.

Nancy Paul

Nancy Paul, pianist for North Cleveland Baptist Church, Cleveland, retired recently. She had served as pianist of the church for 57 years. She was honored on Feb. 28 by the congregation. “Simply put, Nancy Paul is a treasure and a legacy,” said Jay McCluskey, pastor. “What a rich heritage that multiple generations of our church family received through the musical blessing of this gifted woman.”

Don Pickrell, Southern Baptist Mission Service Corps missionary and member, Rechoboth Baptist Church, Soddy Daisy, led a missions team of 17 people who were mostly from Rechoboth Baptist to Guatemala during December. They worked with AMG International’s schools there.

Bowmantown Baptist Church, Jonesborough, ordained Michael Faye to the ministry. He is pastor, Telford Baptist Church, Telford.

Dylan Holly has been called as youth pastor, First Baptist Church, Erwin.

Roy Mullins has retired as pastor, Sunrise Baptist Church, Bulls Gap, after serving for 25 years. He is available for pulpit supply and can be contacted at 423-552-8864.

Donnie Clemons has been called as pastor, Williams Chapel Baptist Church, Springfield.

Deloris Huskey, ministry assistant, Sevier County Baptist Association, based in Sevierville, will retire May 31. She has served the association for 13 years.

First Baptist Church, Gainesboro, called Kelly Stockton as pastor. Its former pastor was Marc Burnett, whose last Sunday was Jan. 10.

The television show, “A Fresh Start,” is airing out of Nashville, Memphis, and Knoxville. It is a ministry of Back to the Basics Ministries, based in Knoxville, which is directed by Bobby Mullins, a pastor in Mississippi who formerly was a pastor in Tennessee. Grace Baptist Church, Braden, has called Eddie Davis, a member of First Baptist Church, Hickory Withe, as music leader.

 

CHURCHES

First Baptist Church, Alexandria, will hold revival services March 20-23. Phil Glisson, evangelist based in Memphis, will preach.

Brush Creek Baptist Church, Brush Creek, will hold “Passion of Christ, The Easter Story Drive-Thru,” March 12-13 from 7-9 p.m. For more information, call 615-683-8249 or 615-218-4422.

Butlers Chapel Baptist Church, Ramer, is holding Super Tuesday Nights at 7 p.m. Speakers are Lane Finley of Mississippi on April 5, John Kirk of Middleton on April 12, Eric Jones of Ramer on April 19, and Howard Golsbey of Mississippi on April 26.

ASSOCIATIONS

Bradley Baptist Association, based in Cleveland, is offering its annual tax preparation ministry through April 12 at the association office. The ministry is held in conjunction with the United States Internal Revenue Service and is led by association volunteers. The service is free and is available to families making less than $56,000 a year. The volunteers, led by Linda Finnell, present the gospel and pray with each client. Holston Baptist Association, based in Johnson City, is offering the training for church leaders, “War Room: The Battle of Prayer,” Feb. 23 – April 19 to support the movie, “War Room.” The training is being held at Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Jonesborough. Stone Baptist Association, based in Cookeville, will hold an Evangelism Conference April 18 at West View Baptist Church, Cookeville. Thurman Seber, former director of missions, Salem Baptist Association, based in Liberty, will speak.

 

DEATHS

Nell Miller, 85, mother of Mark Miller, Sunday School specialist for the Tennessee Baptist Convention, and David Miller, director of missions, Indian Creek Baptist Association, based in Waynesboro, died Feb. 27 in Lexington. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Lexington, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband, Roy; three other sons, Dan, Gary, and Steve; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

Lisa Doreen Snyder, 49, pastor’s wife of Cleveland, died Feb. 9. She was the wife of Richard Snyder, pastor, Blue Springs Community Church, Cleveland. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, two children, and one grandchild.

Byron A. “Pat” Clendinning, 89, died Feb. 16 in Mississippi. He was a professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas; a minister of counseling at a church in Atlanta, Ga., staff member for the Baptist Sunday School Board, Nashville; staff member for the Christian Life Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, Nashville; and an Southern Baptist International Mission Board missionary in Switzerland.

  • The estate of the late Bettye Thompson of Concord Baptist Church, Chattanooga, recently gave $385,000 to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes, based in Brentwood.   • Noel Tredinnick of London, England, leads the Carson-Newman University ensembles and guests during the school’s Ashe-Henderson Worship Series on Feb. 2. Tredinnick who regularly serves as worship leader for the event, is organist and director of music of a church in London. Carson-Newman is located in Jefferson City.
