LEADERS

Mark Hobafcovich, staff member of the North American Mission Board, Alpharetta, Ga., since 2008, has seen his book, Defector: A True Story of Tyranny, Liberty, and Purpose, be published. He started the Nashville Romanian Baptist Church, Nashville, in 1993 which he served as pastor and then was a church planting strategist, Nashville Baptist Association, from 2005-08. The book tells of Hobafcovich’s “ordinary” life, he reports, though he spent time in jail in Yugoslavia. For more information, visit Defectorbook.com.

K.J. Zumbrum has been called as pastor, Riverside Baptist Church, Harrogate.

Ryan Martin has been called as pastor, Alanthus Hill Baptist Church, New Tazewell.

Herbert Hester, pastor, First Baptist Church, Tullahoma, since 1997, will retire Aug. 1. He will remain in the Tullahoma area and be available for short-term ministry.

Chris Noland has been called as pastor, First Baptist Church, Decherd. Formerly he was a pastor in Maine. Noland has also been a youth pastor. His father, Jay, was pastor of First, Decherd, from 1987-90.

Kelly Parkison, wife of Scott Parkison, pastor, Trinity Baptist Church, Manchester, has written He Knows Her Name, a book about adopting a child from India.

Allen Payne has been called as pastor, First Baptist Church, Whitesburg.

Jake Brown has been called as pastor, Four Point Baptist Church, Cleveland.

David A. Evans has been called as pastor, Cohulla Baptist Church, Cleveland.

Bobby Sanders, pastor, Springville Baptist Church, Springville, retired in April.

James Simmons was called as interim pastor, North Fork Baptist Church, Puryear, effective April 3.

Ken Kyker has resigned as pastor, Boones Creek Baptist Church, Johnson City. He served the church for 11 years.

David Kissell has been called as associate pastor of children, South Fulton Baptist Church, South Fulton.

ASSOCIATIONS

Riverside Baptist Association, based in Livingston, will send a team to Ohio for the fifth year on July 11-16 to support the Tennessee/Greater Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio Baptist Partnership. For more information, contact 931-823-2612 or rba@twlakes.net.

The annual Student Conference of Holston Baptist Association, based in Johnson City, drew 1,301 people from about 60 churches to LifeWay Christian Conference Center, Black Mountain, N.C., March 18-20. About 10 students made professions of faith. The students also brought 272 pairs of shoes and 140 Bibles and gave $4,000 for African children.

Duck River Baptist Association, based in Tullahoma; the Tennessee Baptist Convention; and area churches will hold the Jesus Tent during the Bonnaroo Music Festival June 9-12. William Carey Baptist Association, based in Fayetteville, continues to hold youth revival meetings on Wednesdays. Upcoming meetings are on June 1 at First Baptist Church, Flintville, and on July 6 at New Grove Baptist Church, Ardmore. For more information, contact 931-433-3631 or wcba@fpunet.com.

ENTITIES

Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes, based in Brentwood, was presented $10,000 by the First Citizens National Bank, Franklin, as part of its recent Kars4Kids vehicle show which was a fundraiser. It was held on April 17. The event benefits the summer activities fund of TBCH.

DEATHS

Jim Crews, 73, associate pastor, Sunrise Baptist Church, Bluff City, died on May 1. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jewell; two children; and three grandchildren.

CHURCHES

Lakeview Baptist Church, Leoma, will hold a summer camp June 20-24 for boys and girls ages 10-18. For more information, call 931-852-4919.

Second Baptist Church, Dyersburg, held revival services recently. Five people made professions of faith, three joined the church, and many others made other spiritual commitments. Floyd “Lammie” Lammersfeld, evangelist of McKenzie, preached.

McLemoresville Baptist Church, McLemoresville, held revival services recently. Two people made professions of faith and many others prayed at the altar, reported Floyd “Lammie” Lammersfeld, evangelist of McKenzie. Lammersfeld preached at the revival.

New Hope Baptist Church, Sharps Chapel, has broken ground for a new building.

First Baptist Church, Linden, will hold revival services June 5-8. The preacher will be Phil Glisson, evangelist based in Memphis.

  • A group of widows from the Ethridge area pause during their group’s fifth annual hikers ministry. The widows are a part of Noah’s Ark Widows Ministry which meets at First Baptist Church, Ethridge. They served in North Carolina and Tennessee on April 7-11 on the Appalachian Trail helping 100 hikers, at the Gatlinburg Fire Department, and at a ministry care center where they ministered to some widows.
