Jimmy Burroughs has been called as interim pastor of Pinson Baptist Church, Pinson, in Madison County.

Elected as officers of McMinn-Meigs Baptist Association were Phil Prichard, Wildwood Baptist Church, moderator, and Victor King, Short Creek Baptist Church, associate moderator.

Mike Rhodes, pastor of Puryear Baptist Church, Puryear, will retire at the end of December after 39 years as a preacher and pastor. He will be available, beginning in January, for pulpit supply or transitional interims. Contact him at bro.mikerhodes@gmail.com or 731-426-3273.

Morris Memorial Baptist Church, Moscow, called Mark Duggin as pastor on Oct. 21.

Jonathan R. Young was installed as the third pastor in the 73-year history of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Cookeville, on Oct. 21. Ramon Wyatt of Brown Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, McMinnville, where Young served as associate minister and youth pastor, presided over the installation service.

EDUCATION

A concert by Christian recording artist MercyMe was the highlight of the 21st annual Union University Scholarship Banquet Oct. 18 with more than 1,600 people in attendance at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson. Since their debut in 2001, MercyMe has sold more than 9 million units. The group is best known for “I Can Only Imagine.”

  • Artie Rivers, pastor of Mount Hermon Baptist Church, Savannah, was honored Sept. 23 on his 30th anniversary with the church. With him is his wife Barbara. Rivers has served the church longer than any other pastor. He also was recognized for his accomplishment by Shiloh Baptist Association during the day of celebration.

  • New Market Baptist Church, New Market, celebrated the 20th anniversary of Pastor J.W. Taylor and his wife Linda (left photo) on Sept. 16. During his 20 years with the church, Taylor has led in the building of a new sanctuary and educational building. “We love our church family and we know they love us. They have shown it to us consistently over the last 20 years in so many ways,” Taylor observed. The church also recognized pianist Lisa Watkins, left, and organist Kim Stapleton (right photo) for serving the church together for 25 years. During that time they oversaw the fund raising for both a new piano and organ as well as handbells. They are active in all areas of the church’s music ministry.
  • Sweetwater Baptist Association held its annual meeting Oct. 15. Among items of business, messengers updated the association’s Constitution and Bylaws and voted to remodel the association’s office building.
