DEATHS
Jim Richards, 78, a longtime Southern Baptist minister, died recently in Memphis. He was a Southern Baptist missionary in the Dominican Republic and interim director of missions, Big Hatchie Baptist Association, based in Covington, in 2016 and 2007. Richards was former interim pastor, Oak Grove Baptist Church, Covington. He also worked for Southern Baptist organizations in Arizona and Florida.
CHURCHES
Westwood Baptist Church, Nashville, along with First Baptist Church, Dickson, and Cabin Row Missionary Baptist Church, Southside, formed a missions team of 25 people to minister in Greenville, S.C. The group led a Backyard Bible Club in a low-income housing project during the day and Vacation Bible School at night to assist a church. The BYBC drew a high attendance of 92 and the VBS 123. At least 14 people made professions of faith. God provided vehicles for transport, food for participants from a local charity, and another Baptist church for lodging. “The same needs surround us no matter what the name of the city or town. Look for God at work and join Him,” reported Bob Hammer, pastor, Westwood Baptist.

Colonial View Baptist Church, Cookeville, has chartered American Heritage Girls and Trail Life USA troops, which have been developed to offer a Christ-centered alternative to Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

David L. Dozier, who is only 26 years old, was ordained as a deacon by First Baptist Church, Gallatin, Sept. 18.
Joshua Franks has been called as pastor, First Baptist Church, Bruceton. Franks is former pastor, Walker Memorial Baptist Church, Franklin. He is a graduate of Liberty University.
Cliff Goolsby, deacon, treasurer, and leader of First Baptist Church, Gainesboro, was recognized on his 39 years of service recently. Former ministers Marc Burnett and Damon Corley, and Joe Wiles helped lead the special service. Wiles is director of missions, Stone Baptist Association, based in Cookeville. Goolsby is moving to Georgia.
Josh Thornton has been called as youth minister, Caney Fork Baptist Church, Cookeville.
Benji Bona, Allen McDougal, and Scott Wyrick were ordained as deacons on Sept. 11 by North Fork Baptist Church, Puryear.
Calvary Baptist Church, Waynesboro, has called Keith Cagle from Selmer as pastor, effective Sept. 11.
First Baptist Church, Collinwood, has called Stephen Leach as pastor.
Jack Henry has been called as pastor, Mount Olive Baptist Church, Union City, effective Aug. 28.

2016 JAM (Journey into Adventures in Missions): Road Trip will be held in October for children in grades 1-6 and their leaders. 2016 JAM will be offered on Oct. 1 at Victory Baptist Church, Mount Juliet; Oct. 8 at First Baptist Church, Humboldt; and Oct. 22 at First Baptist Church, Dandridge. The events are held by Tennessee Woman’s Missionary Union.
