CHURCHES

Parkburg Baptist Church, Pinson, will have revival services Oct. 27-30 with evangelist Phil Glisson of Memphis.

Colonial Baptist Church in Memphis will celebrate its 70th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 27. Former pastor Gerald Hallmark will lead the joint Sunday School class at 9 a.m. Clay Hallmark, pastor of First Baptist Church, Lexington, and former president of the Tennessee Baptist Convention, will bring the message in the 10:30 a.m. worship service. A potluck luncheon will follow.

First Baptist Church, Dover, was established Aug. 17, 1924, as the first Baptist church in Stewart County. Members of the church marked the anniversary with a “Centennial Celebration” on Aug. 25 with guest speaker Randy C. Davis (president and executive director of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board), former staff members and a churchwide fellowship meal.

LEADERS

Kevin Holden

Pastor B J Thomason celebrated his 10th anniversary as pastor of New Middleton Baptist Church on Sept. 1.

Trinity Baptist Church, Hendersonville, has called Kevin F. Holden as associate pastor. He is a 30-year retired Navy veteran. Holden and his wife, Rita, recently relocated from Green Cove Springs, Fla., to be near grandchildren.

DEATHS

Andrew “Andy” Preston Wolverton, associate pastor of Walker Memorial Baptist Church, Franklin, for the past 18 years, died Aug. 21 at the age of 55. Wolverton held degrees from Samford University, Birmingham, Ala., and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as a pastor in south Georgia before moving to Franklin to be near his parents. He is survived by his father and two children. He was deeply loved by everyone at the church, said Walker Memorial pastor Chuck McElhannon.

Park City Baptist Church in Fayetteville, celebrated pastor Don Russell’s 30th year of ministry there on Aug. 18. He was called to Park City on Aug. 21, 1994. During his tenure the church has purchased land, added a wing on to the building and a parking lot and have future plans to build a new sanctuary. Much love was shared as the church thanked Russell and his wife, Lori, for their 30 years of ministry. A reception was held in their honor during the evening service and the church also honored him with a gift.
