CHURCHES

Grace Baptist Church, Braden, will have revival services Nov. 10-13 with guest evangelist Phil Glisson of Memphis.

Sinking Creek Baptist Church, Johnson City, will have a Restoration Benefit Concert featuring Muster Grounds Musik Fife & Drum and the Singing Duggers Nov. 2 from 6-8 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will go to the restoration of the historic log church. The church was founded in 1772. The log church, located on the property of Sinking Creek Baptist, was built in 1783 and contains exterior logs and hewn church pews from the original building. The renovation cost is estimated at $100,000.

Antioch Baptist Church, Athens, will celebrate its 75th anniversary on Nov. 3.

Ninth Street Baptist Church, Erwin, will hold its 90th homecoming celebration on Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. with former pastor Chris Ward. A fellowship meal with follow the morning worship service.

Cherokee Baptist Church, Jonesborough, recently celebrated 236 years of ministry. It is one of the oldest Baptist churches in Tennessee.

Buffalo Baptist Church, Rutledge, held a homecoming service on Oct. 6, celebrating 227 years of ministry.

Avondale Baptist Church, Rutledge, recently celebrated its 125th anniversary.

Joe Sorah

Chris Milligan and Andrew Hodge recently were licensed to preach by Blue Springs Baptist Church, Rutledge.

Joe Sorah, compassion ministries specialist with the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, recently celebrated his fifth year of ministry with the TBMB. He and his wife, Teresa, live in Knoxville.

Lascassas Baptist Church, Lascassas, recently ordained Zane McKee, Jason DeBerry and Steven Brown as deacons.

Steve Gamble recently was called as pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church, Athens.

  • The children of Woodland Baptist Church, Brownsville, recently made a book of illustrations and notes for pastor Randy Kellough in celebration of Pastor Appreciation Month. See column by Carolyn Tomlin in this issue.
  • Chris Ward, director of missions, and Chrisie Ward, ministry assistant, for Riverside Baptist Association, based in Livingston, have announced their intention to retire on Dec. 31. They have served the association for 15 years. They plan to remain in the area and Chris Ward will be open to pulpit supply.
  • Mack’s Grove Baptist Church, Dresden, recently celebrated its 125th anniversary. Phil Mitchell, right, director of missions for Weakley County Baptist Association, presented the 125-year plaque from the Tennessee Baptist Historical Society to deacons Tony Thompson, center, and Wayne Washburn.
  • Rittertown Baptist Church, Hampton, recently accepted a gift of $20,000 from the Bluff City Post 9629, Veterans of Foreign Wars, on behalf of Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes.
