Baptist and Reflector
COOKEVILLE — A mission team from Cookeville First Baptist traveled to Franklin, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati, to serve alongside church partner Shawn Acrey and Journey Community Church for their VBS Sports Camp July 16-20. It was the first VBS for Journey Community Church which launched on Christmas Eve 2017.
During the first half of the week the Cookeville team served alongside a World Changers team comprised of youth and adults from Sweetwater, Tenn., Arkansas and Rockford, Ill., along with volunteers from Journey Community Church. The rest of the week was comprised of the First Baptist team serving alongside Journey Community Church.
As with a regular VBS, kids sang songs each day, learned Bible verses and had a Bible story time. But when it came time for rotations, the children rotated through sports, crafts and snack stations. Each day featured three sports stations comprised of either baseball/softball, basketball, cheerleading, football, kickball and soccer.
Kids had the opportunity to learn some skills and enjoy time playing the sports with youth and adults. This was a great time to not only have fun with the kids but also build relationships.
In addition to VBS Sports Camp, the team went out into the community twice to deliver ice cream sandwiches to people, sparking conversations and connections.
Journey Community Church has seen eight people come to Christ since its launch with six of those being baptized and personally discipled.
