MOUNT JULIET — A disaster relief team from Forest Hills Baptist Church in Nashville, led by Steve Brock, will leave Sunday, Sept. 15, for Morgan City, La., and work next week to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Francine.
The hurricane hit the Louisiana coast in Terrebonne Parish, with Morgan City facing particularly bad damage on Sept. 11.
Baptist Press reported that thousands were without power in Louisiana on Sept. 13 and some residents face structural damage, downed trees and flooding.
The Forest Hills team originally was headed to South Carolina, but was not needed and they responded to the call to go to Morgan City. They will be based at First Baptist Church, Morgan City, said Wes Jones, disaster relief specialist for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board.
The Tennessee team will be working with a Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma incident command team, Jones said.
Jones received a request for additional teams on Friday from Coy Webb, national director for Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.
“We have a call out for chainsaw teams with chaplains to go to Morgan City, Jones said.
“If you are a trained volunteer that does not have a team or your team is not going, please contact the office and we will try to put you together with another team going,” he said.
Teams or individuals should contact Elizabeth Holmes at eholmes@tnbaptist.org or Garry Maddox at gmaddox@tnbaptist.org, Jones said.
“Pray for those affected and those responding but most of all, pray for God to be glorified and many to come to know him as Savior,” Jones encouraged.
