Damjana Mraovic-O’Hare
Carson-Newman University’s Damjana Mraovic-O’Hare has been named a Fulbright U.S. Scholar. For C-N’s associate professor of English and director of the Writing Center, the news opened the door to an exciting opportunity to study and teach in Belgrade, Serbia this fall. Being a Fulbright Scholar is considered by many as one of the most prestigious fellowships a U.S. scholar can be awarded, with only 20 percent who apply earning the honor. Mraovic-O’Hare, who is in her seventh year at Carson-Newman, earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Belgrade.

Volunteers from Tennessee Valley Baptist Association recently took six tons of water to Newport where they delivered it to an elementary school for community residents without water due to the recent water crisis in the East Tennessee town. Director of missions David Haynes said more than 20 churches collected the water. “When things like this happen, we work together. It’s been good to see. Haynes said the association is collecting additional water, food and other items to send to another town in East Tennessee.
