FRANKLIN — Union City pastor Justin Hiens will be nominated as vice president of the Tennessee Baptist Convention during The Summit, set for Nov. 11-13 in Murfreesboro.
Ben Cowell, pastor of Brownsville Baptist Church, Brownsville, informed the Baptist and Reflector Oct. 21 that he will nominate Hiens. “He is a pastor whose leadership is unmatched when it comes to creating discipleship opportunities. Having developed a pipeline for identifying and raising up the young men of Second Baptist toward Great Commission faithfulness, Hiens is proactive in “calling out the called,” Cowell said.
“Justin is a pastor to pastors. He has always been integral in reaching out to encourage myself and several of our peer, from the very first moment that we were introduced.”
Cowell also described Hiens as a man of prayer. “Every time we have a conversation, it doesn’t conclude until we have had a time of prayer,” he said.
Hiens also is strong believer in discipleship, Cowell continued. “ Justin is a man who, by conviction, understands that disciple-making churches cooperating together is the best hope for penetrating the existing lostness in our Tennessee communities.”
Cowell added that Hiens “embodies the valued attributes that Tennessee Baptists unanimously identified during the Acts 2:17 listening sessions.”
In 2023, Second Baptist Church gave eight percent of its undesignated offerings through the Cooperative Program.
Hiens and his wife, Cherry, have four children. B&R
