Thirty years ago this month, Tennessee Baptists and the Baptist and Reflector received a special blessing from God — Mary Nimmo joined the staff of the B&R.
Mary came to us by way of Louisville, Ky., where she was born and raised. She later married Darrell Nimmo and moved to Richmond, Ky., where she attended Eastern Kentucky University.
They then moved to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, where Darrell earned his seminary degree. They moved to Nashville when he was employed by the then Baptist Sunday School Board (now LifeWay Christian Resources).
Mary learned of an opening for a typesetter on our staff and she was employed by then editor Wm. Fletcher Allen. Looking back, she was Fletcher’s best hire ever.
Mary is an extremely hard worker. She has adapted to many different tasks at the B&R, whether it be setting type, designing newsletters for churches or proofing the paper.
Though advertising and circulation are listed as her primary responsibilities now, Mary does whatever is needed.
More importantly, for the B&R and the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, Mary has been an ambassador. Only the Lord knows how many people she has ministered to over the years or has provided “a listening ear” to. She is well loved across the state, especially among church ministry assistants.
Mary is one of the first people I turn to when I have a prayer need. She is a prayer warrior bar none.
While I have been blessed to work with her for 30 years, that is nothing compared to the blessing of her friendship. Thank you Mary for your service to the B&R and Tennessee Baptists. B&R — Lonnie Wilkey
