UNDERGRAD ENROLLMENT UP AT UNION

JACKSON — Traditional undergraduate enrollment for the fall semester at Union University is up 2.2 percent, the first increase in fall-to-fall enrollment in this category since 2010.

The number of new students at Union increased from 401 in 2017 to 450 this year, a 12.2 percent increase. Non-traditional enrollment is up 1.1 percent in headcount, but the number of student credit hours is 1,409 more than last year, a 16.8 percent increase. [Read more…]

JACKSON — Lisa Rogers was walking in the woods, one of her favorite pastimes, when she got a phone call from outgoing Union University trustee chairman Norm Hill. Hill asked Rogers if she’d consider serving as the next chairman for the Union board of trustees.

Rogers immediately knew the answer: No. But she told Hill she’d pray about it.

“I figured I’d pray about it and then tell him no,” she says.

But as she considered the opportunity, God began to reveal to Rogers that she should accept. In November, she will rotate off the board and conclude her three years as chairman. [Read more…]

UNION LAUNCHES CALL TO MINISTRY NETWORK

JACKSON — Union University has joined with three other Southern Baptist schools to launch the Call to Ministry Network.

The network seeks to identify and encourage people in Baptist churches who have sensed a call to ministry service.

The Call to Ministry Network is a partnership between Union; Anderson (S.C.) University; California Baptist University, Riverside, Calif.; and Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, Okla. It was launched during the Southern Baptist Pastors Conference held in conjunction with the SBC annual meeting in June in Dallas.

Money is not evil.  But loving it is.

The Apostle Paul said “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evils” (I Timothy 6:10).  The difference is a matter of the heart, not the wallet.  It’s not about how much money I have.  It’s about how much does money have me.  The issue is not the size of my bank account, but the proclivity of my heart.

Believers are not to love money. However, believers can and should leverage money for God’s purposes. When I think about God’s work through Tennessee Baptists, it seems obvious to me that major leveraging has been happening. [Read more…]

UNION WOMEN FALL SHORT IN D-II SEMIFINALS

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Union University women’s basketball team saw its dramatic postseason run come to an end on Wednesday night — just one game shy of playing for a national championship.

Making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II semifinals, the Lady Bulldogs suffered a 70-57 loss to the University of Central Missouri at Sanford Pentagon.

The loss ended a historic season for the No. 7 seeded Lady Bulldogs (32-4), who captured their first South Region title and posted the most single-season wins since joining the ranks of NCAA D-II in 2012. [Read more…]
