ASSOCIATIONS

Robertson County Baptist Association, based in Springfield, bought $1,750 of equipment for its block party closet. The funds came from the Vacation Bible School consignment program of LifeWay Christian Resources, Nashville. To receive the funds, 16 of the association’s churches allowed the association to place their order for the curriculum within a two week period to receive 15 percent of total cost, reported Janice Bierod of the association.

Polk County Baptist Association, based in Benton, has recently partnered with two Georgia churches on ministry projects including the Appalachian Regional Ministry Christmas Backpack program and a snack pack ministry in schools, reported Ryan Potts, director of missions.

Holston Baptist Association, based in Johnson City, will hold its carnival workers ministry beginning Aug. 15 for the Appalachian Fair which will be held Aug. 22-27. For more information, contact the association at 423-929-1196 or kim@holstonbaptist.org.

CHURCHES

The Good News Choir of Brentwood Baptist Church, Brentwood, will celebrate its 20th anniversary Aug. 14 at the church at 4 p.m. The anniversary will include several activities. The choir for people 60 and older is seeking service in churches and communities, even if it requires an overnight stay, reported Tom McMinn, director. Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Cross Plains, will hold its “I Haiti My Christmas Sweater 5K Run/Walk” to support Haiti missions July 16 in Springfield. For more information, call 615-654-3846.

New Prospect Baptist Church, Lawrenceburg, will hold a Kids Camp with the theme Organized Chaos July 25-29. For more information, contact 931-762-7929.

LEADERS

Scott Parkison, pastor, Trinity Baptist Church, Manchester, has been called as pastor, Stevens Street Baptist Church, Cookeville.

Randy McMoran has been called as worship leader, Hopewell Baptist Church, Springfield, effective June 19.

Brent Seals has resigned as pastor, Lynwood Lynnridge Mission Church, Elizabethton, due to his health.

Brad Warren has resigned as pastor, Calvary Baptist Church, Elizabethton.

Chris Shumate has been called as pastor, Oak Street Baptist Church, Elizabethton, on July 1. The interim pastor was Garry Edwards.

Russ Poteet has been called as pastor, Walnut Grove Baptist Church, Mountain City.

Debbie Cheatham was administrative assistant, Cumberland Gap Baptist Association, based in Harrogate, for six years. Maria Bailey has been named the new administrative assistant.

Andy Sliger is serving as interim director, Camp Agape, of Polk County Baptist Association, based in Benton. His wife Melba also is serving with him. They are seeking some volunteer help. For more information, contact 423-338-4153 or praiseGod@campagape.net.

Rory Naeve has been called as senior pastor, First Baptist Church, Oak Ridge. He formerly was senior pastor, First Baptist Church, Claxton, Ga., and associate pastor and minister to youth, First Baptist Church, St. Simons, Ga. Naeve is a graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic University and Mercer University from which he earned the master of divinity degree. Larry Fields, retired pastor, Central Baptist Church, Bearden, Knoxville, was interim pastor.

Kelly Mill Baptist Church, Dyers, will ordain Stephen Fields to the ministry on July 17 at 2 p.m.

Darryl Marcle has resigned as pastor, Laneview Baptist Church, Kenton, effective June 26.

Dustin Cook has resigned as pastor of Center Baptist Church, Trenton, effective June 26.

Steve Smith has been called as pastor, Fairfield Baptist Church, Morristown.

  • Vacation Bible School at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Lebanon, drew 710 participants with an average attendance of 600. As a result, 55 children made professions of faith, reported Glenn Denton, pastor. The VBS had 132 workers. The church draws about 1,000 to Sunday morning worship service.
  • Jerry Patton, right, song leader, Fort Hudson Baptist Church, Dyersburg, for 50 years, was honored by Joe Wright, director of missions, Dyer Baptist Association, June 26. The church also was celebrating its 61st anniversary that day. Patton, who also has served in other leadership positions in the church, received a resolution from the Tennessee legislature and Dyer Association and a plaque from the Tennessee Baptist Convention. Wilma, his wife, also was honored, reported Phillip Senn, pastor.
