LEADERS

Jerry Woods resigned as pastor of First Baptist Church, Crump, effective Dec. 5. He is available as a supply preacher, revival preacher, and as interim pastor. Contact him at jerrydwoods@gmail.com.

Wayne Wester, senior pastor, Highland Baptist Church, Tullahoma, for six years, has been named a church planter of the Southern Baptist North American Mission Board in Princeton, Ind. His last Sunday was Nov. 29.

GRADUATES

From New Orleans (La.) Baptist Theological Seminary on Dec. 19 — Ryan Ogle of Cleveland earned the Certificate of Church Leadership; Cathy Patterson of Chattanooga earned the master of arts in Christian education; and Stephen Freeman of Clarksville earned the doctor of ministry.

From Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, N.C., recently — Anthony Lee Brogan earned the master of divinity with Christian ministry; Andrew Lee Griffith earned the master of divinity with Christian ministry; Joel Benjamin Polk earned the master of divinity with Christian ministry; Michael L. Stuggs earned the master of divinity with Christian ministry; Toby Lance Fleming earned the master of divinity with international church planting and master of arts in intercultural studies; Anthony Dean Walker earned the master of theology; Thomas L. “Tiger” Brooks Jr., earned the doctor of ministry; Richard W. Booker earned the doctor of education; Justin Keith Buchanan earned the doctor of philosophy; and Trevin Kyle Wax earned the doctor of philosophy.

Cage Jr., of West Park Baptist Church, Knoxville, earned the master of divinity; Matthew Cannon of Lee Village Baptist Church, Harriman, earned the master of divinity; William Ellis of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, Knoxville, earned the master of arts in missiology; Ryan Gaither of LifePoint Church, Smyrna, earned the master of arts in discipleship and family ministry; Alexander P. Huguenard of Fellowship Bible Church, Jackson, earned the master of divinity; Chris Joseph Krueger of Summertown Baptist Church, Summertown, earned the master of divinity; Aaron Martin of Concord Baptist Church, Chattanooga, earned the doctor of ministry; Evan Ray Owens of The Journey Church, Lebanon, earned the master of divinity; Jeff Owens of First Baptist Church, Shelbyville, earned the master of arts in theological studies – intercultural leadership; Daniel Patterson of First Baptist Church, Clarksville, earned the doctor of philosophy; Mickey Douglas Rector of Middle Valley Baptist Church, Hixson, earned the master of arts in church ministries; Eric Coleman Smith of Sharon Baptist Church, Savannah, earned the doctor of philosophy; Matthew Brett Vaden of First Baptist Church, Clarksville, earned the doctor of philosophy; Travis M. Whited of Silverdale Baptist Church, Chattanooga, earned the master of divinity; and Michael Douglas Williams of Calvary Baptist Church, Oak Ridge, earned the doctor of philosophy.

EVENTS

The Fellowship of Tennessee Baptist Evangelists will hold its Annual Conference Monday, Jan. 18 at First Baptist Church, Joelton. The meeting will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Speaking will be Phil Glisson, Terry Mitchell, and Jeff Myers. Music will be provided by Carolyn Reed, Rachel Myers, and others. The theme of the meeting is Sharing the Good News in this Generation. DEATHS

Juanita Wilkinson died Dec. 31 in Nashville at the age of 88. Wilkinson, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Nashville, was a longtime employee of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Education Commission which is no longer in existence. She was a talented writer and wrote for several Baptist publications. Her late husband, Louie Wilkinson, was a longtime editor of Open Windows, a devotional book published by LifeWay Christian Resources. She is survived by two children and four grandchildren.

CHURCHES

First Baptist Church, Gruetli-Laager, will hold revival services Jan. 31 – Feb. 3. Phil Glisson, evangelist of Memphis, will preach.

  • A Christmas party for residents of a cottage of the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes in Chattanooga was held by Zion Baptist Church, Benton. Church members visited the cottage and brought a meal and gifts. The church had 51 people attend and the cottage had seven residents, reported Mike Hazlewood, pastor.
